Project Description
What is Diagnostics?
Diagnostics is an important element in dentistry. An accurate diagnosis can save much time and effort in addressing the oral care problems of the patient. Without proper diagnostics, the correct treatment cannot proceed.
How is it conducted?
Good diagnostics starts with an extraoral examination, in which the dental practitioner will examine the head and neck region thoroughly, checking for any abnormalities in those areas. Afterwards, the intraoral region is observed. A complete test covers both the hard and soft tissues. Structures such as the tongue, floor of mouth, buccal mucosa, palate, and teeth will be checked for any lesions. This step is necessary so as not to miss out on any dental pathology such as oral cancer or other potentially malignant findings.
Why are preventative measures important?
At About Smiles Dental, if we detect dental caries or potential caries, Dr. Svetlana Sampson will take specific preventive measures to stop the lesion from progressing. Fluoride therapy is applied as a prophylactic treatment to strengthen the teeth, making them more resistant to decay. Fissure sealant will be applied to areas where the fissures of the teeth run deep and cause patients to be susceptible to dental caries. We take pride in providing quality care for all of our patients, ensuring the best of care.
The most successful methods of maintaining your oral health involve the use of effective daily oral hygiene (including brushing and flossing) as well as regularly scheduled professional cleanings and examinations.
